THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to Cal Lutheran in their opening game in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 71-51 at the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by junior Basha Brulee-Wills who tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Sagehens.
Cal Lutheran was led by Jessica Salttolo and Chelsea Jacoby who each had 14 points for the Regals.
The Regals came out strong in the opening minutes as they quickly went on a 12-4 run that forced Pomona-Pitzer to burn its first timeout of the quarter with five minutes to go.
Cal Lutheran maintained its lead over the Sagehens as they ended the first quarter up 20-12.
The Regals continued to build their lead in the second quarter by playing hard defense as they forced the Sagehens to turn the ball over 13 times in the first half as the Sagehens went into the locker room down 37-20.
The Sagehens battled in the third quarter but could not gain any ground on the Regals. Cal Lutheran slowly extended its lead over the Sagehens and found themselves up 61-32 going into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer fought hard in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Regals 19-10 but could not comeback as the Sagehens dropped their first SCIAC game of the year.
Pomona-Pitzer next takes the court on Tuesday, January 5th at 7:30 p.m. as the Sagehens continue SCIAC play at Chapman.
