CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team earned a berth into the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament for the third time in program history.
The Sagehens come into the tournament with the No. 3 seed and will be taking on No. 2 seeded Whittier College on Friday afternoon. The game will be played at La Verne who is serving as the tournament host.
Pomona-Pitzer ended the 2018 regular season with their best season in program history as they set a program record for wins at 26-14 and 17-11 in conference play.
The Sagehens are led by SCIAC Player of the Year in Liz Rodarte who tied with the most RBI on the team with 37 while hitting .389, slugging .679 and blasted a team-high 10 home runs this season. Rodarte also did her work on the mound as the ace of the Sagehens' pitching staff with a 15-6 overall record and 143 strikeouts with two no-hitters this season.
Also leading the Sagehens' offense is First Team All-SCIAC selections in Izzy Deatherage and Makensey Druckman. Deatherage earned All-SCIAC as a shortstop and led the Sagehens this season with a .419 batting average and tied a team-high in RBI with 37. Druckman had a sensational first season with the Sagehens as she batted .352 and slugged .543 with 25 RBI in the middle part of the Sagehens' batting order. Druckman has 11 doubles on the year and hit three home runs as the first baseman for the Sagehens.
Whittier earned the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament with a 25-14-1 overall record and 18-10 in SCIAC play.
The Poets are led by Brittany Attaway who hit .505 this season with 56 hits in 111 at-bats. She leads the team with 13 doubles, 35 RBI and 18 walks. Amanda Melodia leads the Poets on the mound with a 10-5 overall record with 37 strikeouts and a 4.06 ERA.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Campus West Field.
