Men's Track & Field Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track & Field Team with the All-Academic Team Award and listed seven members on the team to the 2019 Division III All-Academic Awards list on Monday morning.

"Our program prides itself on being excellent in the classroom and in competition," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "It's something we talk about from day one of practice in the fall, we want to do awesome things in and out of the classroom."

In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

The Sagehens had an outstanding year on the track and in the classroom, ending the year with a 3.6 cumulative team GPA, the third-highest out of all men's teams in the NCAA. The seven athletes who were awarded All-Academic Individual honors are Julian Degroot-Lutzner, Daniel Hill, Dante Paszkeicz, Andy Reischling, Daniel Rosen, Hugo Ward, and Owen Woo.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

"This season was historic on the track for our group sending six individuals to the national championship and earning our highest national finish in over a decade," said Coach Carpenter. "To be able to put out results like those on the track and then back it up in the classroom is inspiring. That is what Pomona-Pitzer track and field is all about and I couldn't be more proud of our group!"
