Men's Tennis: Sagehens End Fall With ITA Regional Tournament

CLAREMONT, CA. --  The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team competed in the 2019 ITA Fall Invitational this past weekend with matches at CMS and Pomona-Pitzer.

In the singles competition, Octave Bellet fell in the round of 32 to Jack Katzman by the score of 6-2, 6-1. Bellet competed in the consolation quarterfinal after he won his first match in round one over Kevin Yu 6-3, 7-5, but he fell to Ian Habbestad 7-6 (8), 6-4. Mukund Madabhushi also earned a first round win in Flight A as he took down Adrien Rooney 6-3, 6-4 but fell in the round of 32 to Daniel Park 7-5, 6-3 and also fell in the consolation semifinal after being retired with an injury.

In other action, Hayden Snyder lost a hard-fought match against Robert Liu in the round of 32 by the score of 7-5, 7-6 (10). Jansen Comadena fell in the round of 32 to Jake Williams 6-4, 6-1 and came back to lose round one of the consolation bracket to Ian Freer 6-1, 6-3.  Charlie Stark went the distance and won the Flight B draw after defeating SCIAC foe Ethan Carroll 6-4, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (8).  Nills Skattum reached the Round of 16 after earning a win over Ben Airing in the round of 32, 4-6, 7-5, 10 (3) he fell to Connor Soohoo 6-1, 6-4.  Quinn Hirsohn also reached the round of 16 after a win over Jake Will 6-1, 5-7 (9), he ended up falling to Jake Haffner 6-2, 7-5. After dropping his first match of the bracket, Avery Bicks made a run into the consolation semifinals where he ended up losing to Matthew O'Connor 6-2, 7-5.

In the doubles competition, the Sagehens went deep into the tournament as the pair of Comedena and Madabhushi made a run into the semifinals where they fell to Shanker and Wei 8-5.  The team of Snyder and Weiler fell in the round of 32 to Cummins and Libao 8-3 while the duo of Hirsohn and Skattum also fell in the round of 32 to Reznik and Yip 8-6. Bicks and Stark won their opening round match against Habbestad and Williams 8-6 and fell in the round of 16 to Sahnker and Wei in a thriller by the score of 8-7 (1).

The Sagehens will next compete as they open up their spring season against Azusa Pacific on February 1st at 10:00 a.m.
