Men's Tennis: No. 12 Sagehens Ready To Serve Up Exciting New Season

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team are ready to serve up an exciting new season as they begin play this Saturday, February 9th with a home match against Cal Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. Following last season's second place finish in SCIAC play, the Sagehens are ready to compete again with a strong core of returners and several excited freshmen in the squad.

Last Season: The Sagehens finished runner-up in the SCIAC last season and took second in the SCIAC Tournament after losing to cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the final. Then-freshman Jed Kronenberg competed in the NCAA Individual Tournament and reached the quarterfinals.

Key Returners: Kronenberg will look to follow up his impressive freshman campaign, winning ITA Rookie of the Year and earning First Team All-SCIAC. He went 27-8 in singles and was ranked seventh in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Octave Bellet De Giacomoni earned Second Team All-SCIAC last season and will look to play at the No. 2 singles spot after going 14-10 in singles. The senior also went 9-11 in doubles last season. Another senior Josh Gearou is coming off a Second Team All-SCIAC campaign and went 15-11 in singles last season. Gearou also finished in the semifinal round in Pool A at the ITA West Regional this past fall. Josh's twin brother, Sam Gearou, will look to hold down the No. 5 spot in singles after going 12-4 last season. Despite having little exposure in his freshman season, Jack Bernstein (4-4 singles, 5-7 doubles) has put in work during the fall to show he can contribute in this upcoming season, winning Pool B in the ITA West Regional back in the fall. The Sagehens will also be counting on their reliable No. 6 singles player Jacob Schoenherr (13-9 in singles) for another impactful season. Other returnees such as Quinn Hirsohn (4-1 singles, 3-8 doubles), Avery Bicks (1-1 singles, 11-11 doubles), Joey Schwartz (4-2 singles), Parth Desai (2-0 singles, 3-0 doubles), Jonathan Miller, and Nathan Surrier will be counted on to contribute as well.

First Years: The Sagehens have added four freshmen to their team this season, including Jansen Comadena, Nils Skattum, Charlie Stark, and Jack Weiler.
