CLAREMONT, CA. – The No.9 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated UC Santa Cruz 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 13-7 overall and have won their second-straight match.
The Sagehens started off the day behind to the Banana Slugs as UC Santa Cruz took two out of the three doubles matches to start the day.
Pomona-Pitzer dropped both of their doubles matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots 9-7 but got the win at the No. 2 line as Antony Bello and Marko Mandic earned an 8-6 win as the Sagehens trailed 2-1 heading into singles.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win the majority of the singles matches as they took four of the six singles matches to earn the win.
The Sagehens first got a win at the No. 4 singles match as Bello also went on to win his singles match by the score of 6-4, 6-2 and Avery Bicks followed that up with a win at the No. 6 singles as he defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-1.
Mandic also went on to win his singles match at the No. 3 spot as he battled in the first set to win 7-5 and went on to take the second set 6-1.
Pomona-Pitzer capped off the day with a win at No. 1 singles as Graham Maassen found himself in a battle as he won the first set 6-0 and then went on to win the second set, 7-6 (10) to seal the win for the Sagehens.
