CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to non-conference opponent No. 13 Williams College 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 11-7 overall while the Ephs remain perfect on the year at 6-0.
The Sagehens fell behind early against Williams as they started out 0-3 after the doubles competition.
Williams earned a sweep of doubles over the Sagehens as they took No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-5 and also took a win at No. 3 doubles 8-5.
The Ephs capped off doubles with a win at the No. 2 doubles spot as they won 8-6 and held a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
The Sagehens split singles play with the Ephs as they won three of the six matches. Pomona-Pitzer first took a win at the No. 1 singles match as Jake Yasgoor defeated his opponent by the score of 6-4, 6-2.
Pomona-Pitzer got its other two wins of the afternoon at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches. Sam Malech earned a win at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-3 win and Marko Mandic earned a win as he came back in the No. 5 singles match as he lost the first set 6-3 and came back to win the second set 6-1 and finished off his opponent in the third set by the score of 6-3.
The Sagehens went on to lose at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches against the Ephs. Graham Maassen dropped his match at the No. 2 line in a third set, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Josh Kim lost his match at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3 and Antony Bello lost at No. 4 6-4, 6-4.
