LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by the trio of junior Daven Crossland, sophomore Eamon Stein and junior Dillon Jacob who all netted a goal in the win. Sophomore Bryan Diangson got the win in goal for the Sagehens as he stopped three balls and improved to 3-0 on the year.
The Sagehens had their offense working against the Leopards as they tallied a season-high three goals in the win and outshot La Verne 14-7.
Pomona-Pitzer had chances early on in the game but finally got one past the keeper as Jacob opened up the scoring with a goal in the 35th minute to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
La Verne didn't trail for long as they erased their deficit just 7 minutes later as Jack Kolodge evened up the score in the 42nd minute as the two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Sagehens quickly regained the lead early in the second half as Stein found the back of the net off of an assist from senior Bjorn Sigurdsson to take a 2-1 lead.
The Sagehens added an insurance goal late in the second half as Crossland snuck one passed the keeper and it would pay off as La Verne scored in the 86th minute to narrow the lead down to 3-2.
The Leopards tried to tie the game late in the second half but the Sagehens defense stayed strong as they took the road win 3-2.
