Men's Soccer: Maric Notches Hat Trick In Sagehens' 4-1 Win Over Caltech

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Voja Maric tallied his first hat trick of his career as the Sagehens defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

This win marks two in a row for the Sagehens in conference play as they came off of a 3-2 overtime win against Whittier on Saturday night.

Pomona-Pitzer dominated time of possession against the Beavers and was able to run its offense effectively to create multiple different scoring chances throughout the match. The Sagehens outshot the Beavers 14-0 in the first half and 12-3 in the second.

The Sagehens notched their first goal of the match as Maric settled a ball from senior Jk Gopakumar and found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

Pomona-Pitzer tacked on its second goal of the half on a corner kick as sophomore Max DeWit headed in a ball from freshman Connor Ford to push the lead to 2-0.

The Beavers began to show some offense early in the second half and strung together a few good possessions. Tristan Nee was able to sneak one past the Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper for the Beavers only goal of the game in the 56th minute.

Maric responded for the Sagehens just over four minutes later for his second goal of the night and then completed his hat trick in the 69th minute with both assists coming from junior Peter Rentzepis.

The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they next host La Verne on Saturday, September 17th at 11:00 a.m.
