CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball teamed defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 91-55 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens have now won three-straight games in the SCIAC and won four of their last five contests to move to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Adam Rees who tallied a game-high 23 points in the win. Four of the five Sagehen starters reached double-digit scoring totals as Corbin Koch finished with 16 and Micah Elan and Daniel Rosenbaum each netted 17 points while Rosenbaum also pulled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Pomona-Pitzer put on a shooting clinic from beyond the arc early on in the game as they opened up the game shooting 6-8 from three and 9-12 from the floor to open up a 24-8 lead over the Kingsmen with 12:16 remaining in the first half. The Sagehens kept up their impressive shooting numbers through the first half as they went into halftime shooting 60% from the field and 60% from three-point territory.
Cal Lutheran began to crawl their way back into the game as the Sagehens cooled off towards the end of the first half and cut the deficit down to just nine points at 41-32.
The second half didn't go any better for the Kingsmen offense as the Sagehens kept them at 20% shooting from the floor in the half and limited them to just 23 points.
Pomona-Pitzer took a while to get its offense rolling in the second half as the Kingsmen still only trailed by nine with 16:26 left in the game but the Sagehens' offense got hot again and eventually held a 30-point lead at 80-50 with 8:08 left in the game.
The Sagehens were able to take their foot off of the gas later in the second half as they cruised to a dominating 91-55 win over SCIAC foe Cal Lutheran at home.
