CLAREMONT, CA. The Pomona-Pitzer Football team is set to take on Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival CMS on Saturday, November 11th at Zinda Field.
The Sagehens and Stags will meet in the annual Sixth Street Rivalry as both teams will end their seasons in after this Saturday's contest.
Pomona-Pitzer comes into the weekend with a 3-4 overall record and 2-4 in SCIAC play while the Stags hold a 4-4 overall record and 2-3 in SCIAC play this season.
The Sagehens are 0 for their last four against the Stags in the past four years and last enjoyed a win in the battle for Sixth Street in 2012 when they relished a 37-0 shutout win at home. It has been 12 years since the Sagehens last enjoyed a win at Zinda Field when they outscored the Stags 37-10 in 2005.
Coming off of a 28-21 win on Senior Night against La Venre, the Sagehens will look to keep their momentum going and cap of 2017 with a win in the Sixth Street Rivalry.
Pomona-Pitzer is led this season by Edward Sias who has thrown for 1,085 yards this season with six touchdowns. Karter Odermann has also seen a considerable amount of snaps at the quarterback position with 843 yards and eight touchdowns as well as rushed for 258 yards with four touchdowns on the ground. David Berkinsky leads the Sagehen receiving core this season as he has 592 yards on 56 receptions with two touchdowns on the year.
Aseal Birir will be playing in his last game as a Sagehens as the All-Time Career Rushing Yards leader has amassed 793 yards rushing this season in just eight games to go along with 13 touchdowns and set the single game rushing record with 275 yards against Cal Lutheran earlier in the season.
The defense will look to keep their good play going against the Stags as they are coming off of their best performance of the season as they held the Leopards to a season-low in points with 21 in last week's game.
The Stags are led by quarterback Sam Healy who has thrown for 943 yards this season with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. Garrett Cheadle leads CMS on the ground with 430 yards on 84 carries with five touchdowns and Chris Cziesla leads the receiving core with 519 yards and three touchdowns.
As a part of Rivalry Weekend, Sagehen Athletics will be hosting a pre-game community tailgate event the morning of the game from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Merritt Field. Fans are encouraged to come and show their support and participate in games, giveaways and other events.
