CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 11-9 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact:With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 14-7 overall and 4-6 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Seth Stone who went 5-6 in the loss with an RBI.
The Bulldogs struck first in their first at-bats after a leadoff triple led to Redlands starting out with a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens responded in the bottom half of the first after back-to-back doubles by juniors Nolan McCafferty and Jeremy Jess produced two runs to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead after one.
Redlands came back to tie the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly but the Sagehens plated three runs in the bottom of the third after Jess blasted a solo shot and then
RBIs from Jack Hanley and Michael Hill put the Sagehens up 5-2.
Pomona-Pitzer added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with RBIs from Jeremiah Quezada and Stone but Redlands came back with a big inning as they tallied four runs in the fifth to cut the lead down to one run at 7-6.
The Bulldogs followed up with another big inning to take back the lead from the Sagehens in the top of the sixth with three runs in the inning to take a 9-7 lead.
Hill came back with a sacrifice fly for the Sagehens in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead down to 9-8 but Redlands added on to its lead with one run in the eighth and one in the ninth to extend the lead to 11-8.
Pomona-Pitzer had a chance to tie in the bottom of the ninth as Jake Patterson-Kohout drove in a run to bring the score to 11-9. The Sagehens had a chance to tie with the tying run on base but could not bring him home as the Bulldogs held on for the win.
