Baseball: Sagehens Drop Doubleheader To Redlands

REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 8-3 and 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at The Yard.

Season Impact: The Sagehens end the year with a 22-17 overall record and 12-12 in conference play. The Sagehens have clinched a berth into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 4 seed.

Pomona-Pitzer 3, Redlands 8

The Sagehens had six players record a hit in game one against Redlands with Brian Knapp and Jeremiah Quezada each registering an RBI.

Pomona-Pitzer got out in front of Redlands to start the game after Quezada singled home Knapp in the top of the first and Jeremy Jess brought in another runner right after to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs came back in the third and cut the lead down to one run after an RBI ground out and then tied the game in the fourth after an error brought the two teams even at 2-2.

Redlands took the lead in the fifth as they pieced together a five-run inning coming off of three hits and an error by the Sagehens gave the Bulldogs a 7-2 lead. Redlands added one more in the sixth after a sacrifice bunt plated a runner to push the lead to 8-2.

Knapp contributed with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the eighth but the Sagehens couldn't rally back as they fell in game one of the doubleheader.

Pomona-Pitzer 7, Redlands 3

The Sagehens were led by Knapp and MCCafferty who each went 2-5 in the loss.

Redlands jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first with an RBI single and then grounded into a double play to score the next run to hold a 2-0 lead.

The Sagehens responded and tied the game in their at-bats with RBI singles from Adam Hinthorne and McCafferty but the Bulldogs got their two runs back in the third with a double to reclaim the lead at 4-2.

Redlands added one more run in the fourth and extended their lead to 7-2 after adding two more in the seventh while the Sagehens tried to start a rally in the ninth after Knapp brought in a run on an RBI groundout but the Sagehens couldn't come back as they fell to Redlands in both games of the doubleheader.
