Baseball: Sagehens Fall To Tigers 7-6 In Bottom Of The Ninth

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental 7-6 on Friday afternoon at Anderson Field.

The Sagehens struck first in the top of the third as senior Simon Rosenbaum hit an RBI double to left field to bring home junior Tanner Nishioka as Pomona-Pitzer played from in front.

Occidental came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Bryan Smith and went on to plate four runners in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by a two-run double as the Tigers took a 5-1 lead over the Sagehens.

Pomona-Pitzer answered with one run in the top of the sixth as Nishioka singled home sophomore Matt Omori to cut the Occidental lead down to 5-2.

The Sagehens came back to tie the game in the top of the eighth with one swing of the bat as Nishioka blasted a three-run homer to even up the score at 5-5.

The Sagehens took the lead in the top of the ninth as sophomore Bryce Rogan hit a solo home run to give Pomona-Pitzer a one run lead at 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Occidental came back in the bottom of the ninth and hit back-to-back RBI singles as the Tigers went on to win the game in the bottom of the ninth to take the first game of the season series.

The Sagehens next take the field as they host Occidental on home for a double header on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 a.m.
