Women's XC Finishes 23rd at UC Riverside Invite

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's cross country placed 23rd as a team in a deep field Saturday at the UC Riverside Invite. The Sagehens ran their fastest cumulative team time ever over 6000 meters (3.7 miles) by clocking 1:49:20. 

Anna Hirsch led the Sagehens with a 112th place individual finish, racing a 21:43.9 - the number 3 mark for Pomona-Pitzer on the UCR course. Eva Novy-Hildesley followed in 127th at 21:48.5, while Caroline Struby took 133rd with a time of 21:50.8 - the number six time in program history on the UCR course. Fiona Bodkin finished 146th at 21:55.1, and Ella Gary rounded out the Sagehens' scoring five in 162nd, clocking a 22:04.0.

Cleo Baernstein finished 218th overall with a time of 22:49.0, completing the Sagehens' six individual results in the Invite section. In the Open race, Scarlett Dunlop clocked a huge personal best over 5000m in 18:44, as did Triana Maldonado at 19:01.

Up Next: The Sagehens will split their squad and compete in two meets on Saturday, October 3. One group will travel to the D3 Pre-Nationals meet at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and the remainder of the squad will compete at The Master's XC Invite in Santa Clarita.
