CLAREMONT, Calif. --  Pomona-Pitzer Athletics announces the departure of longtime Athletic Trainer Matt Wilson, who is leaving the department after 14 years of service to Sagehen student-athletes.

Wilson joined Pomona-Pitzer Athletics in February 2012 and has played an integral role in the health, safety and well-being of generations of Sagehen student-athletes. Throughout his tenure, Wilson established himself as a trusted member of the athletics department and a mentor to student-athletes, athletic training students and colleagues.

During his time at Pomona-Pitzer, Wilson was instrumental in developing the department's emergency preparedness efforts and led First Aid, CPR and AED training for members of the athletics department. His commitment to education and professional development extended to mentoring athletic training students and medical residents, many of whom have gone on to careers in sports medicine and healthcare.

Wilson also developed strong relationships with physicians and healthcare partners throughout the Claremont community, helping establish a network of medical support that continues to serve Pomona-Pitzer student-athletes.

His final seven years with the Sagehens included serving as Co-Head Athletic Trainer during an extended vacancy within the sports medicine department. Wilson provided leadership and stability during the transition while continuing to oversee the daily care of Pomona-Pitzer student-athletes.

Wilson brought more than two decades of professional baseball experience to Pomona-Pitzer when he joined the department in 2012. Prior to arriving at Pomona-Pitzer, he spent 22 years working in professional baseball, including eight years as a minor league athletic trainer, seven years as a head minor league athletic training coordinator and seven years as an assistant athletic trainer with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2000 through 2006.

In addition to his work with the Dodgers, Wilson served as the minor league coordinator for the San Diego Padres from 2008 through 2010. His professional baseball experience also included stops with the Vero Beach Dodgers, Bakersfield Dodgers, San Antonio Missions and Albuquerque Dukes. He also served as an athletic trainer with the Orlando Magic of the NBA.

A 1988 graduate of Montana State University, Wilson leaves Pomona-Pitzer after 14 years of service to the Sagehen community.
