CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 23 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Championships on Friday evening at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 14-13 on the season and 6-1in conference play.
CMS took control early, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point. Caleb Settles and Advik Mareedu defeated Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati 6-2 at the top spot, while Josh Kim and Sibi Raja earned a 6-2 win over Leo Rocca and Kiran Vairavanathan at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished.
In singles play, CMS quickly closed out the match with straight-set victories at the top positions. Advik Mareedu defeated Goldman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, followed by Warren Pham's 6-2, 6-2 win over Rocca at No. 2. Caleb Settles clinched the match with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Luke Feng at No. 6. The remaining singles matches were halted once CMS reached four team points. Despite the result, the Sagehens cap off a competitive season and postseason appearance in the SCIAC Championships.
The Sagehens now await the NCAA selection show on Monday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. ET to see if they will earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. First-round play is set to begin on Thursday, May 7, with the championship scheduled for Friday, May 22 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
