CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Sagehens cruised to a 4-2 victory over Redlands in the SCIAC semifinals on Wednesday evening at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: The wins put the Sagehens at 14-12 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.
Pomona-Pitzer took an early lead by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three courts. Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Leo Rocca and Kiran Vairavanathan followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2. With a 1-0 advantage, the Sagehens carried momentum into singles play, where they picked up three key wins to clinch the match.
Goldman led the way at No. 1 singles with a strong straight-set performance, 7-5, 6-0. Rocca added another point at No. 2 with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Tanner Ige delivered a crucial win at No. 5, rallying after dropping the first set to secure the match in three sets. His match went 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. With the win, the Sagehens advance to the SCIAC Championships.
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on #1 CMS on the road on Saturday, April 25th for a chance at the SCIAC Championship title. The match will be at 6:00 PM.
