Men's Tennis Splits The Day, Defeating Colby College 6-1 And Falling To Williams College 3-4

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team defeated Colby College 6-1 and  to No. 18 Williams on Friday at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: The wins put the Sagehens at 8-8 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Match 1
PP: 6, CC: 1

The Sagehens set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati got a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Sam English and Neil Chulani followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 2. John Wehrle and Lucas Elkins completed the sweep with a 6-4 decision at No. 3.

In singles play, the Sagehens continued their strong performance, winning five of six matches. John Wehrle picked up a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles, while Tanner Ige earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3. Chulani delivered a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4, and Mallampati battled back for a three-set victory at No. 5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Sam Saeed also won at No. 6 7-5, 6-7, 10-5 win. Colby picked up its lone point at No. 1 singles, but the Sagehen's secured the convincing 6-1 victory.

The Sagehens fell in a tightly contested 3-4 match to Williams College. Williams claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The Sagehens picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, where Sam English and Neil Chulani earned a 6-4 victory. In singles play, the Sagehens battled back with three wins but came up just short. Drew Goldman led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 win, while Sam English rallied for a three-set victory at No. 5, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Ethan Zou delivered a three-set win at No. 6, 1-6, 7-6, 14-12. Williams secured wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles to win the match.

Up Next: The Sagehens will travel to Occidental for a SCIAC matchup on Saturday, March 28th. The match will be at 1:00 PM.
