Men's Golf Wins Kingsmen Invitational

MOORPARK, CA — No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer men's golf notched its first win of the season at the CLU Kingsmen Invitational.

After a dominant performance in round one, Pomona-Pitzer had a nailbiter on their hands as the round came to a close. After starting off with a slew of birdies, the Hens hit the more difficult back nine. With four holes to play, Cal Lutheran had tied the lead and Occidental had pulled within 4. With the pressure on, the Hens responded, notching key birdies on the 18th and gritty pars on the difficult 1st to edge out Cal Lu by two shots.

Senior John Kim found his first individual victory of his Senior campaign, a welcome result after some struggles this season. With an almost insurmountable 5 shot lead coming into round 2, Kim had all but secured the victory. Kim played steady in the early going, playing his first six holes at even par. After a stretch of bogeys in the mid-round and almost flawless play from Redland's Jay Wing, Kim found himself leading by only one as he hit his 15th hole. In the face of mounting pressure, Kim stayed solid, parring his last four holes to secure the individual win.

Junior Alexander Oh finally found his form this week. After struggling early in the season, Oh made his first lineup appearance this week, taking the opportunity and running to a top ten individual result. He led the tournament in pars by three, showcasing his consistency on a course where big numbers are all too common. On Tuesday, he only had two blemishes on the scorecard, and led the team on the day with a +1 73. Freshman Aidan McGreen was firing on all cylinders in the early going, starting 4-under through his first 5. And unfortunate quadruple bogey on the 11th set him back, but McGreen clutched up to finish out with pars to secure the team victory.

NJPGA grads Andrew Lim and Colin Elias rounded out the lineup with a 77 and 83, respectively. Lim also got it going early, with three birdies in his first five holes. He also struggled on the 11th but finished well, firing a birdie on the 18th. It was a struggle for Elias all week, and he started off poorly once again on Tuesday. He found his form late in his closing stretch, notching an eagle on the 18th. Freshman Jay Chinchankar had an up-and-down round on Tuesday. His first nine included three birdies, a double and a triple. He steadied the ship on the back nine for a +6 78.
