LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Point Loma on Thursday afternoon in the Pacific Coast Doubles.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 3-2 on the season.
The match began with competitive doubles action. Point Loma picked up the win at No. 1 doubles, as Stanislas Noel and Finn Kirschner defeated Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati 6-4. The Sagehens responded at No. 2, where Leo Rocca and Kiran Vairavanathan secured a 6-4 victory. The No. 3 doubles court did not produce a result, leaving the doubles point split.
In singles play, Pomona-Pitzer delivered a strong showing, winning three completed matches to secure the team victory. Drew Goldman led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Leo Rocca followed with a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 4, and Tanner Ige added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Point Loma earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while the No. 6 match did not produce a result. With the combined doubles and singles results, the Sagehens secured the 5-2 team win in the first match of the Pacific Coast Doubles.
