CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to Azusa Pacific University 5-2 on Saturday morning at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-2 overall.
The Sagehens lost the doubles point to APU but took two of the three doubles matches into the final game.
Drew Goldman and
Jay Mallampati narrowly fell at the No. 1 spot 7-6 while
Leo Rocca and
Kiran Vairavanathan also lost 7-6 at the No. 2 position.
Sam English and
Neil Chulani also fell in a hard-fought doubles match at No. 3, 6-4, as the Sagehens went into singles down 1-0.
Pomona-Pitzer managed to win two singles matches over APU as Goldman won at the top singles match by the scores of 7-5, 6-3 and Rocca won a three-set battle at the No. 4 singles with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The Sagehens went on to drop points at the No. 2, 3, 5, and 6 singles matches against APU.
Luke Feng fell at the No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2 with English losing his match at the No. 3 spot in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.
The Sagehens ended with loses at 5 and 6 as well as Chulani dropped his singles match 6-3, 6-2 and
Tanner Ige dropping his match at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6.
