ROCHESTER, NY — After a valiant effort on day two, Nilay Naik fell just short of the individual cut line at the DIII National Championships.

Naik fared much better at the shorter, trickier layout of Midvale GC. He attacked the championship track from the get go - after beginning with a bogey on the driveable 7th, he fired off 4 birdies in the next nine holes to reach -2 on the day. He would give two back on holes 1 and 2, and sat at +7 for the tournament, and E for the day. With the cut sitting around +4, he would need to pour on the birdies to claim a spot on Wednesday. He managed one on the tough par three fourth, but three other pars meant Naik would fall just short of the cut line.

It is unfortunate Naik was not able to showcase his talents any further this week, but his many accolades speak to his immense talent in the game of golf. He left the second day in 37th place in the entire nation - even after a rough start, his prowess on the greens is evident. His consistency this spring was unmatched by his fellow competitors, as he climbed steadily to the top 40 in the nation. All this has led to an abundance of awards - early in the week, he was distinguished as part of the All-West Region Team. Following the national championship, Naik was recognized as part of the All-Freshman team, firmly cementing him as a premier player in his class. Though his time has ended in upstate New York, he'll have much to look back on and be proud of in 2024-25.
