COSTA MESA, CA — No. 19 Pomona Pitzer picked up a win in a head-to-head match over La Verne Sunday.

After a meteoric rise in the rankings following last week's dominant victory at SCIAC 2, the Hens kept their feet on the gas-pedal. Eleven Sagehens participated, with the same five as counting scores. Costa Mesa will be the site of SCIAC Championships in two weeks, where an automatic bid to Nationals will be on the line.

Out of eleven players, nine came in at 73 or better, demonstrating Pomona-Pitzer's impressive depth in this year's campaign. They were strong from the bottom to the top of the lineup, with four individuals placing in the top five. All five "lineup" players shot under par, and their "B" team almost took down La Verne's premier squad.

John Kim led the counting squad with a clean, bogey-free 67. He had five birdies on the day and a run of three in a row on 8, 9 and 10.

Andrew Lim led the "B" team with 6 birdies of his own on Sunday. He would give back two, but his -4 68 was good for third place.
