GREENSBORO, N.C. — Pomona-Pitzer women's swim & dive finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay Thursday on day two of the NCAA Swim & Dive Championships, earning All-American honors.
The Sagehens' relay team was built of
Francesca Coppo,
Joy Lee,
Chesna Pelka and
Valerie Mello. Coppo started the race with a 22.95 split before Mello swam the fastest anchor of the event with a 22.20. Pomona-Pitzer finished just 1.48 seconds behind first place MIT.
Kathryn Jones finished just outside the alternate spots in the 400-yard IM prelims, racing a time of 4:27.64 to place 19th.
Emmie Appl finished 20th with a 4:27.94 while
Elise Jones placed 28th with a 4:33.88. Mary Louisa Leopold placed 41st in the prelims of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.03.
In the 200-yard freestyle prelims, Mello finished in the first alternate spot after clocking a 1:51.05.
Maren Rusk (1:52.14),
Karolina Dzieciol (1:52.32) and
Charlotte Dixon (1:52.38) placed 31st, 32nd and 33rd respectively.
Nina Aballea placed 41st with a time of 1:54.09.
As a team, the Sagehens currently sit in eighth place with a total of 66 points.
