Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team had a double-header against Colorado College and Middlebury College. The Sagehens cruised past the Tigers 6-1 and on Wednesday and defeated #2 Middlebury 5-2 at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are now 3-3 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC conference play.
Match 1:
The Sagehens secured a dominant 6-1 victory over Colorado College, setting the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. Drew Goldman and Jayanth Mallampati won 6-1 on Court 1, while Samuel English and Luke Feng won 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Charlie Coleman and Lucas Elkins clinched the doubles sweep with a tight 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Sagehens continued their dominance. Ethan Lee led the charge at No. 1 singles, taking down his opponent 6-4, 6-1. John Wehrle followed suit with a strong 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2. At the No. 4 spot, Mallampati took a 7-5, 7-6 victory in another tight match. Blake Bothmer cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5, and Kiran Vairavananthan closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No.
Match 2:
The Sagehens secured a 5-2 victory over Middlebury. The match began with a competitive doubles round, where the Sagehens managed to take one of three matches. At No. 3 doubles, Neil Chulani and Ethan Lee dominated 6-2 to get the Sagehens on the board. However, Middlebury responded with wins at the top two spots, giving Middlebury the doubles point.
Despite trailing after doubles, the Sagehens stormed back in singles play, claiming victories in five of six matches. Drew Goldman set the tone at No. 1, delivering a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win. Ethan Lee followed up with a strong 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2. Andrew Andea continued the momentum, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Sam English sealed the team win with another hard-fought three-setter ,winning 7-6(7), 5-7, 6-4 at No. 5. At No. 4, Luke Feng came in clutch and battled through a three-set match, rallying for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 securing the victory for the Sagehens.
