GREENSBORO, N.C. —
Francesca Coppo placed fifth in the women's 50-yard freestyle to earn All-American honors on day one of the 2025 NCAA Swim & Dive Championships.
Coppo raced a 22.91 in the 50-yard freestyle final to finish fifth after swimming a program record time of 22.88 in the prelims. She bested NCAA Woman of the Year Alex Turvey's previous program record 22.93 set in 2023 and is only the second Sagehen ever to swim the event in under 23 seconds.
Valerie Mello finished 11th in the event, earning All-American honorable mention honors. Mello swam a 23.09 in the consolation final after clocking in at 23.08 in the prelims, moving up to No. 3 all time in the program record book.
The Sagehens' 400-yard medley relay team also earned All-American honorable mention honors after placing 11th.
Izzy Yoon,
Elise Jones, Mary Louisa Leopold and
Nina Aballea raced a time of 3:45.29 in the consolation final.
Pomona-Pitzer had several student-athletes finish just outside of the final alternate spots in the 200-yard IM prelims.
Emmie Appl placed 19th in the prelims with a 2:04.73 while
Karolina Dzieciol placed 20th with a 2:04.76.
Izzy Yoon took 27th with a time of 2:05.74, Kathry Jones finished 29th (2:06.04),
Elise Jones placed 44th (2:08.70), Gabi Calvi took 49th (2:11.33) and
Amaia Sherman placed 50th (2:11.84).
Aballea placed 43rd in the prelims of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.94.
Maren Rusk finished 44th in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:12.01.
As a team, the Sagehens finished day one of four of the NCAA Swim & Dive Championships in ninth place with a total of 32 points.
