MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's swimming & diving jumped to the top spot in the standings after day three of the 2025 SCIAC Championships. At 714 points the Sagehens, who came into the day trailing CMS, now lead the Athenas (630) and Chapman (340).
Pomona-Pitzer secured a series of event wins on the day, first by
Bennett Jones in the 400-yard IM. Jones raced a 4:27.54 to win and edge teammate
Emmie Appl by 0.07 seconds. The Sagehens completed a podium sweep in the event, as
Karolina Dzieciol took third with a 4:28.72.
Valerie Mello won the 200-yard freestyle with a SCIAC record time of 1:49.78. Teammate
Charlotte Dixon placed second with a 1:51.13 while
Nina Aballea took third with a time of 1:51.84 for another Pomona-Pitzer podium sweep.
Elise Jones earned gold in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:03.54.
Francesca Coppo came in second with a 1:03.83.
Izzy Yoon posted a win in the 100-yard backstroke after clocking in at 56.04.
Amaia Sherman finished second with a time of 56.49. The Sagehens finished the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Yoon, Jones, Mary Louisa Leopold and Aballea raced a time of 3:46.45.
Pomona-Pitzer will conclude competition at the SCIAC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22.
