MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's swimming & diving moved from fourth to second place Thursday following day two of the SCIAC Championships. The Sagehens currently have 356 points, behind CMS (394) and ahead of Cal Lutheran (219).
Francesca Coppo earned the team's lone individual event win of the day, coming in first in the 50-yard freestyle with a meet record time of 22.84.
Valerie Mello followed close behind in second with a time of 22.90. The Sagehens also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, as
Joy Lee, Coppo,
Chesna Pelka and Mello raced a 1:32.05 to secure the victory.
In the first swim event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle,
Abby Raclaw earned a third-place finish after clocking a 5:03.80.
Emmie Appl finished second in the 200-yard IM, just 0.02 seconds behind first place, while
Elise Jones took third with a time of 2:05.18.
Pomona-Pitzer will resume competition tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 21, on day three of four at the SCIAC Championships.
