CLAREMONT, Calif. — Jack Stein was named SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the Sagehens' men's XC staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year, the conference announced Friday. Stein also earned the Ray Adkinson Award.

Stein led Pomona-Pitzer to another conference title while earning both Athlete of the Year and the Ray Adkinson Award recognition. The Ray Adkinson Award is named after the initial conference champion from Pomona College in 1915. It recognizes the senior athlete who best exemplifies the conference's high ideals through their ability, leadership, determination, sportsmanship and academics. A biology major with a 3.835 grade-point average, Stein set a new program record of 23:45 at UC Riverside before breaking the Pomona-Pitzer course record at the Championship meet. A constant positive influence on his teammates as a senior captain who led the squad to form a strong bond and inclusive culture that supports each team member, he has also worked at Cal Berkeley studying the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS), a cellular pathway responsible for protein degradation related to cancer and neurogenerative and immune disorders.

Amber WilliamsEmma DeLira and the Pomona-Pitzer staff were named the Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Sagehens to a fifth consecutive conference title. All five scorers placed among the top 10 with another two making the All-Conference Second Team.

In addition to Stein, Amir Barkan, Peter Neid, Jefferson Wright and Ian Sharp were all named All-SCIAC First Team members for placing in the top-10 individually at the SCIAC Championships. Tiernan Colby and John Bard secured Second Team All-SCIAC honors.
