SANTA CRUZ, CA — No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer women's golf finished the Hollins Cup in second place.
The Sagehens again fought hard on the challenging Pasatiempo GC, where not one hole played under par, and improved on their day one total. It would have been tough to catch Emory for a first-place finish, as they were down 16 strokes after Sunday. But it required a valiant effort to move into the silver medal spot, an effort that gave Pomona-Pitzer a vital head-to-head victory against No. 3 WashU.
Freshman Ann Zhao continued her brilliant start to her first semester of college golf. The Shanghai native notched another top finish (7th) after her win last week. She was top five in the field in pars and birdies, a clear recipe for success. The budding star finished with a 35 on the back nine, cementing the Sagehens' second-place result.
Junior Eunice Yi and freshman Annabelle Chan notched top-twelve finishes, providing solid rounds of 77 and 76. Yi had two birdies on the day and Chan had one. They both were in the top three in pars, however, showcasing their steady play.
Playing as an individual, Malia Loo found her stride this weekend with a top-15 finish. She had three birdies on the day on her way to a 78 and led scoring on the par threes for the tournament. Freshman Riley Wang, also playing as an individual, improved on her day one total with an 81, featuring bookending birdies. Lisa Chu also found consistency in her 81, with no worse than bogey on the day.
The international seniors also put together solid rounds on the day, with Ottavia Lombardo notching a birdie in her 84, and Federica Domecq Lacroze managing an 82.
