Taylor and Florsheim Highlight Weekend at APU

AZUSA, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's and women's track and field teams competed at 2024 Franson Last Chance meet at Azusa Pacific University over the weekend, competing in the 800m, 10k, and triple jump on the women's side while competing in the 100m, 200m, 1500m, mile, 5k, 10k, 400m hurdles, and the 4 x 100m relay on the men's side. 
 
In The Results
Michaela Jones was the lone 800m runner this weekend, crossing the line in 2:15.19 to take 22nd overall. Chloe Connolly took 18th in the 10,000m, running a 39:12.82. In the triple jump, Ella Bowers jumped 11.43m on her final attempt to take 12th place. 
 
In the 100m, Chris Taylor stormed down the track in a program record time of 10.35 seconds which puts him in a tie for seventh in the country. Harrison Brown broke the 11 second barrier for the first time in his career, running a 10.96 second race to take 21st overall. Andres Torres and Kellen O'Rourke crossed the line in 11.27 seconds and 11.31 seconds to take 31st and 33rd. Brown also ran the 200m for the Sagehens, running a 22.24 to take 27th. 
 
In the 1500m, Ian Horsburgh took 10th with a time of 3:51.12 while Colin Kirkpatrick competed in the mile, running a 4:07.55 to take 10th. The Sagehens saw one of the best 5k performances in Division III history by way of Lucas Florsheim as the senior set a new program and SCIAC record in the event, crossing the line in 13:59.24, becoming the 19th Division III runner to break the 14-minute barrier. Derek Fearon also set a program record, storming through the 10k in 29:41.10 to take fourth place overall. 
 
In the 400m hurdles, Peter Gofen took 14th with a time of 55.14 seconds. The Sagehens 4 x 100m relay team of Harrison Brown, Gavin Doig, Sam Butler, and Chris Taylor crossed the line in 41.23 seconds to take seventh overall.
