CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team currently sits in third place with 36 points after Day One of competition at the 2024 SCIAC Track and Field Championships on their home Strehle Track. The Sagehens earned gold medals in the 10,000m and 3k steeplechase and will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they look to battle with CMS, Chapman, and Redlands in a closely contested top-four pack in the team race.
Day One Results
Chris Taylor earned the top seed in the 100m with a time of 10.65 seconds, winning his heat comfortably with a 1.4 m/s tailwind.
Gavin Doig also won his heat to earn a spot in tomorrow's final, running a 10.89 to give the Sagehens two lanes in the 100m final.
Chris Taylor and Sam Butler prevailed in the 200m prelims with only heat winners advancing to finals. Taylor crossed the line in 21.60 to enter tomorrow as the third seed while Butler crossed in 22.33 seconds take enter as the eight seed. Doig narrowly missed the cut for finals, running the sixth fastest time on the day (21.76s) but taking second in the heat to Chapman's Mason Fara who ran 21.51 for the top seed in heat five. Sam Butler also earned a spot in the 400m Championship, crossing the line in 49.49 seconds overall after winning the first heat. In the 800m,
Oscar Roering and
Peter Neid advanced to the final with a time of 1:57.43 and 1:55.78 with Roering winning his heat.
The Sagehens trio of
Quinn White,
Bennett Booth-Genthe, and
Peter Neid all earned automatic spots into the Championship final with each runner winning their heat with times of 4:01.24, 4:03.10, and 4:03.86. The Sagehens duo of
Derek Fearon and
Lucas Florsheim took gold and silver in the 10,000m with Fearon leading the way in a meet record time of 30:17.16 while Florsehim took second in 30:32.62. The duo's performance was reminiscent of their side by side finish at the 2023 NCA Division III Cross Country National Championship when they pair took ninth and 10th in the country.
Owen Kobett took eighth in the 10k with a time of 31:34.25.
Peter Gofen earned a spot in the 400m hurdle finals, crossing the line in 56.24 seconds.
Cameron Hatler earned a convincing victory in the 3k steeplechase as the junior crossed the line in 8:56.75 to take home gold.
Jack Stein took seventh in the event with a time of 9:45.94.
William Marquart threw a personal best in the javelin, hitting 49.44m on his fifth throw of the day to finish in fourth overall.
