Sagehens in Third After Day One of SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's track and field team currently sits in third place with 27 points after Day One of competition at the 2024 SCIAC Track and Field Championships on their home Strehle Track. The Sagehens saw podium finishes in the javelin and long jump and will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they battle it out with CMS and Redlands for the top three spots in the Championships. 
 
Day One Results
In the 100m, Katriona Kirkpatrick earned an automatic qualifier to the final after winning her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds. Kensington Binstadt and Olivia Richards also turned in sub-13 second races with times of 12.96 seconds and 12.97 seconds respectively. Kirkpatrick excelled in the 200m, running a personal best time of 25.12 to win her heat and earn the top seed in tomorrow's 200m final. Olivia Richards ran a 26.54 second race, finishing in 12th overall.
 
In the 400m, Olivia Reichle earned the last spot into the finals with a time of 59.49 seconds. In the 800m, Michaela Jones won her heat with a time of 2:20.70, coasting through the finish line to set up an exciting Championship race tomorrow afternoon. In the 1500m, Mira Terdiman ran a tactical race, working from the middle of the lead pack before making a late charge into first to win her heat with a time of 4:50.70. 
 
In the 10,000m, Chloe Connolly and Lexi Emerson represented the Sagehens with Connolly running a 38:06.54 to take fourth overall with Emerson taking sixth in 39:11.55. The Sagehens showed depth in the 400m hurdles, earning three spots in the finals with Nicole Player entering as the top seed with a heat win in 64.84 seconds while Kaitlyn Ulalisa and Kendrick Dahlin ran 67.25 and 69.91 to make their way into tomorrow's final. Fiona Bodkin ran a strong race for the Sagehens in the 3k steeplechase, taking fourth with a time of 11:32.37. 
 
The Sagehens saw a bronze medal finish out of Felicia Akinde in the long jump as the first year jumped 5.49m on her second jump of the day to take third overall. Pomona-Pitzer earned their second medal of the day in the javelin as Logan Spoonemore threw 36.64m on her second attempt to take the silver medal home. 
 
In the heptathlon, Izzy Sabatino made her multi debut, running 19.04s in the 100m hurdles before jumping 1.25m in the high jump. Sabatino took fourth in the heptathlon shot put field with a 7.96m throw, good for 397 points. In the 200m, Sabatino earned 602 points with a time of 28.37 seconds into a -1.6 m/s headwind. After the four day one events, Sabatino sits in ninth place with 1,745 points, just two points behind eighth and 17 points behind seventh place.
