Sagehens Open Season With 6-1 Loss To Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team opened up their spring schedule with a 6-1 loss to Azusa Pacific on Saturday morning at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.  
 
The Sagehens dropped the doubles point using the Division I format with Azusa Pacific taking the No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles for the opening point of the match.
 
Eshaan Lumba and Feng fell to Velicki and Walter 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles position while Ethan Lee and Neil Chulani lost in a tiebreaker at 7-6 (2-7) to surrender the doubles point to APU.  The Sagehens did get a win at the No. 2 position as Owen Kelley and Sam English earned the only doubles win with a 7-5 victory.
 
After dropping the doubles point, the Sagehens headed into singles looking to make up ground. English was the bright spot on the day for the Sagehens after earning a win in his doubles match, came back for his first singles win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 position.
 
Unfortunately, the Sagehens went on to drop the remaining singles matches to APU as Krishnan fell at the No. 3 position 6-1, 6-4, Chulani at No. 5 losing 6-2, 6-1 and Lee fell at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-2 to allow the clinch by Azusa Pacific. 
 
Finishing out the matches was Feng at the No. 2 position dropping his match 6-3, 6-0, and John Wehrle dropping his match at No. 6 in a three-setter 6-6 (5-7), 6-2, 10-6.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Westmont on February 17th at 10:00 a.m.
