CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's swim and dive team started the new year with a 174-76 victory over the Whittier College Poets in Haldeman Pool, featuring a long course format on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens will have a short break as they turn around to host Colorado College and Biola on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 12:00 p.m.
In The Results
Pomona-Pitzer started the day off with a sweep in the 100m backstroke as
Gabby Calvi,
Valerie Mello, and
Alanna Baker took first through third, finishing their races in 1:10.48, 1:12.12, and 1:13.88. In the 100m breaststroke,
Francesca Coppo and
Dylan Hutchinson took first and second with times of 1:18.26 and 1:19.05. The Sagehens swept the 100m fly with
Alexandra Turvey taking first in 1:03.28 with
Abby Smith and
Chesna Pelka taking second and third in 1:05.23 and 1:08.88. In the 800m free,
Bennett Jones took first with a time of 9:55.20 while
Kae Tanabe took second in 10:07.71. The Sagehens stormed through the 200m free with
Abby Raclaw taking first in 2:12.69 while
Maren Rusk and
Sabrina Wang took second and third in 2:15.70 and 2:18.26. In the 200m IM,
Bennett Jones took first place, just briefly after winning the 800m, touching the wall in 2:30.86 while
Katie Gould took second in 2:35.06 with
Emmie Appl taking third in 2:38.80.
Abby Smith and
Asha Bansal took first and second in the 200m fly with a time of 2:38.42 and 2:31.07.
Francesca Coppo,
Valerie Mello, and
Chesna Pelka took first through third in the 100m fly with times of 1:00.50, 1:01.55, and 1:02.46.
Bennett Jones won the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:31.85 with
Alanna Baker taking third in 2:37.88. In the 400m free,
Abby Raclaw,
Maren Rusk, and
Kae Tanabe earned the sweep, touching the wall in 4:39.48, 4:50.78, and 4:52.18. The Sagehens capped off the afternoon with a 3:26.45 performance in the 400m free relay as
Sabrina Wang,
Kae Tanabe,
Gabby Calvi, and
Alexandra Turvey combined for the fastest time of the day.
In the 1m dive,
Charlotte Friedman took first with 219.60 points while
Katie Chao took third with 149.25 points. Friedman took first in the 3m dive with 235.40 points with Chao taking third with 137.30 points.
