Sagehens Start 2024 with Victory over Whittier Poets

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's swim and dive team opened the 2024 year with a 168-53 victory over the Whittier Poets, featuring a long course format in Haldeman Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens will be back in action next Wednesday when they host Colorado College and Biola at 12:00 p.m.
 
In The Results
The Sagehens started off with a sweep in the 100m backstroke as Cassidy Liu, Tag Curwen, and Joe Dienstag touched the wall in 1:03.17, 1:04.19, and 1:05.41. In the 100m breaststroke, Jack Hoppe took first with a time of 1:09.22 while Kyle Huang and Ted Hwang took second and third in 1:11.22 and 1:12.20. The Sagehens earned the top two spots in the 100m fly with Gordon Kenny touching first in 59.40 seconds and Eric Liu taking second in 59.43 seconds. In the 800m free, Nate Levy took second with a time of 9:31.76. Pomona-Pitzer swept the 200 free as Adrian Clement, Tag Curwen, and Ian Conner took first through third in 2:00.32, 2:02.95, and 2:05.89, respectively. Larry Yu won the 200m IM with a time of 2:08.36 with Isaan Pan and Allen Chang taking second and third in 2:13.14 and 2:19.79. Kyle Huang won the 200m fly with a time of 2:15.49. In the 100m free, the trio of Adrian Clement, Casey Jacobs, and Lenny Raybukh took first through third with times of 53.45s, 55.00s, and 55.69s. In the 200m backstroke, Ian Conner took first in 2:22.34 with Joe Dienstag and Cassidy Liu taking second and third in 2:23.53 and 2:31.66. In the 400m free, Larry Yu led the way with a first place finish, touching the wall in 4:16.89 while Kyle Huang took third in 4:38.72. The Sagehens ended the day with the 400m free relay, turning in the fastest time of the day as Tag Curwen, Gordon Kenny, Kyle Huang, and Larry Yu combined for a time of 3:37.28.
 
In the 1m dive, Liam Gilbert-Lawrence took first overall with 255.00 points while Liam Hochman (218.45) and Zheous Abalos (175.55) took second and third. Gilbert-Lawrence also won the 3m dive, scoring 254.05 points overall with Hochman and Abalos taking second and third with 228.55 and 164.85 points.
