Pomona-Pitzer Defeats CMS on Saturday Rivalry Dual

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's swim and dive team earned a 193-160 victory in their annual rivalry dual with the CMS Athenas. The Sagehens victory brings excitement to the Pomona-Pitzer pool deck as this is the first time the men and women have defeated CMS in the rivalry dual in the same year together since the 1980's. The Sagehens victory comes by way of nine NCAA B Cut times on the weekend as well as four different CMS Pool records. Pomona-Pitzer will take a bit of a break, returning to action on January 6th when they host the Whittier Poets for a dual at 10:30 a.m. in Haldeman Pool. 
 
Day Two Meet Highlights 
Charlotte Friedman highlighted the Sagehens efforts in the 1m dive with a third place performance, earning 230.80 points. In the 200 medley relay, Gabby Calvi, Francesca Coppo, Alex Turvey, and Valerie Mello combined for an NCAA B Cut time of 1:42.81 to win the event. Bennett Jones shined in the 400 IM, winning the event with an NCAA B Cut time of 4:27.03 with Karolina Dzieciol taking third in 4:41.43. The Sagehens took second and third in the 100 back with Calvi and Mello touching the wall in 57.17 and 57.66 seconds. In the 200 free, Maren Rusk won the event with a time of 1:53.00. Francesca Coppo took second overall in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.70. In the 100 fly, Alex Turvey excelled as she normally does, earning an NCAA B Cut and pool record time of 54.29 seconds to win the event by 1.65 seconds. Turvey also earned a convincing win in the 100 free, touching the wall in an NCAA B Cut time of 50.72 seconds, the only swimmer under 52 seconds in the race. Emmy Luu took second in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.42 with Calvi taking third in 2:07.48. In the 200 fly, Abby Smith swam to a second place finish with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:03.44 with Asha Bansal taking third in 2:05.52. Bennett Jones took second in the 1650 free with a time of 17:22.53 with teammate Abby Raclaw taking third in 17:34.23. The Sagehens 400 free relay team of Sabrina Wang, Valerie Mello, Katie Gould, and Alex Turvey combined for an NCAA B Cut and pool record time of 3:24.13, defeating second place by nearly four seconds and CMS' squad by over five seconds.
