CHICAGO, Il. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's swim and dive team battled to a second place finish at the D3 Shootout at the University of Chicago, finishing with 424 team points, just six points ahead of Trinity (Tx.) who finished in third with 418 points while Univ. of Chicago finished in first with 473 points. Alex Turvey and
Abby Smith highlighted the Sagehens efforts as the duo picked up NCAA B Cut times in the 100 free and 100 fly, respectively, with Turvey setting the meet record in the 100 free. The Sagehens also earned the victory in their dual meet against Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning, earning a 216-177 win in Thousand Oaks. Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Nov. 11 when they host La Verne and Occidental at 10:30 a.m.
D3 Shootout Meet Highlights
The 400 medley relay ream of
Gabby Calvi, Francesca,
Abby Smith, and
Katie Gould combined for a time of 3:52.18 to take third place overall. In the 500 free,
Bennett Jones took second place with a time of 5:07.11. Alex Turvey won the 100 fly with a selection time and meet record time of 55.27 seconds. In the mixed 400 free relay, Casey Jacobs,
Chesna Pelka, Kyle Huang, and
Maren Rusk combined for a time of 3:18.42 to take second place. In the 3m dive,
Charlotte Friedman took sixth with 175.55 points. Alex Turvey also won the 100 free with a selection time and meet record time of 50.95 seconds, winning the sprint by nearly a full second with Karen Zhao from Univ. of Chicago taking second in 51.71 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay team of
Chesna Pelka, Alex Turvey,
Gabby Calvi, and
Katie Gould capped off the weekend with a win in the 200 free relay, touching the wall in an NCAA B Cut time of 1:34.98.
Pomona-Pitzer vs. Cal Lutheran Meet Highlights
The Sagehens started the day with a win in the 400 medley relay as
Emmy Luu,
Karolina Dzieciol,
Asha Bansal, and
Sabrina Wang combined for a time of 4:03.26. In the 1000 free,
Abby Raclaw took first with a time of 10:44.88.
Valerie Mello won the 100 back with a time of 1:01.40.
Dylan Hutchinson won the 100 breast in 1:10.34 with
Asha Bansal winning the 200 fly in 2:08.80 and later the 100 fly in 59.09 seconds.
Aja Trice took second in the 1m dive with 170.45 points and took second in the 3m dive with 174.70 points. In the 200 breast, Dzieciol took first with a time of 2:32.08 and won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.99. In the 500 free, Raclaw won with a time of 5:15.86. The Sagehens 200 free relay team of

Alanna Baker,
Andrea Bish, and
Sabrina Wang ended the day with a win in the event, combining for a time of 1:39.41.
