Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Pacific 89-73 on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Pavilion.
With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-2 on the year.
The Sagehens were led by Madison Quan who had 21 points in the loss, Kayla Hankins and Charlize Andaya each had nine while Amra Chidom and Allison Murphy had eight each.
The Sagehens had a tough night shooting the basketball as they hit on 2 of their 20 attempts from three and were 33.8% from the floor.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to an early lead as they took a 6-2 lead after a jumper by Quan and held the lead at 12-10 with 3:11 left to go in the first. The Boxers took advantage of some scoring opportunities late in the first quarter and went on a 12-4 run to take a 24-14 lead heading into the second.
The Sagehens stayed with the Boxers again early in the second quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer struggled to get its offense going late in the first half as the Boxers pulled away at the end of the second quarter to take a 49-34 lead at the break.
The Sagehens tried to chip away at the Boxer's lead in the second half but Pacific always had an answer for a potential Sagehen run. The Boxer's shot 45% from three in the game and had some big three's to stop the Sagehens from getting back within striking distance.
Pomona-Pitzer had its best scoring quarter in the fourth as they outscored Pacific 21-18, but the Sagehens couldn't regain enough ground to mount a comeback as they fell in their home opener.
