Women Swim & Dive: Sixth Street Meet Ends In Sagehens Triumph

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swim and Dive pulled out an exciting victory over cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon to conclude the two-day dual meet, winning 192-161. The Sagehens broke four Haldeman Pool records and saw two swimmers make it past the NCAA B cuts.

The Hens opened up with a victory in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, seeing Angela Ling, Maddie Kauahi, Alex Seidel, and Kate Denend take first place at 1:44.98 and making the NCAA B cuts.

Anna Newman took first place in the 400 Individual Medley at 4:42.37 while Lavinya Yap took fourth at 4:49.07.

After the relay, Ling put on a string of outstanding performances, making the NCAA B cut and beating the 2017 Invited time in the 100 Backstroke at 55.74. Ling went on to break the pool record (set by her in 2015) in the 200 Backstroke, taking first at 2:05.76.

Kauahi took the top spot in the 200 Freestyle at 1:56.11 while Kirsten Mortimer followed in second at 1:57.03. The two finished in their same respective positions in the 100 Freestyle as Kauahi timed at 52.03 to break the pool record while Seidel finished at 53.30.

Over at the 100 Butterfly, Sabrina Kwan finished in first at 57.36 while Seidel took third at 57.23. Kwan later took first in the 200 Butterfly at 2:07.37 while Anna Newman took second at 2:11.29 and Adele Myers finished third at 2:12.99. Newman later crossed in second in the 1650 Freestyle, finishing at 18:12.26.

In the final swimming event of the afternoon, Denend, Seidel, Allison Liu, and Kauahi combined for a first-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay at 3:31.42, setting the new pool record. Sasha Newton, Ling, Denise Dao, and Mortimer combined for a third-place finish at 3:37.22.

At the boards, Emma van der Veen took second place at 202.58.

The Sagehens will compete again on Saturday, January 6 at the Chris Knorr Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran at 10 a.m.
