Women's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Score Four Wins Against DI Seattle

SEATTLE, WA – Sarah Jin, Sabrina Kwan, Maddie Kauahi, and Eva Gontrum each scored individual wins and the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team opened up 2017 at Division I Seattle University.

The Redhawks won the meet 154-93.

Jin scored the first win of the day for the Sagehens, winning the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.06, edging out Seattle's Kaitlyn Overstreet by just over a second.

In the 200 butterfly, Kwan came away with a close win, finishing with a time of 2:11.32, touching just ahead of Kate Sabourin who finished second at 2:11.53.

Kauahi added another win to her impressive 2016-17 campaign, winning the 100 freestyle. She came in at 53.17, Seattle's Kristin Hoffman (53.54) finished second, and Cayla Nishizaki (55.17) took third.

Kauhahi has been named CollegeSwimming.Com SCIAC Swimmer of the Week twice this season. 

The Sagehens got another close with with Gontrum's performance in the 500 freestyle. Gontrum touched the wall at 5:16.73 with Seattle's Sidney Pinger finishing with a time of 5:16.97.

Other Top Three Finishes

Victoria Vanderpoel took third in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:13.54.

Kauahi added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:58.73. She also took second in the 50 freestyle (25.51), Nishizaki finished third in the race (25.61).

In the 200 yard backstroke, Jin finished in third place (2:11.60). She also took third in the 200 yard IM (2:15.71).

Erin Bigus finished third in 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.52.

Kwan placed third in the 100 yard butterfly, coming in at 1:01.77.

Relay Events

The Sagehens came in second in the 200 yard medley relay with the team of Angela Ling, Bigus, Jin, and Mallorie Hsu at a time of 1:51.19.

In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Pomona-Pitzer came in second with a time of 3:42.53 with the team of Hsu, Katherine Lauerman, Nishizaki, and Kauahi.

Next Meet: The Sagehens complete their trip to the Northwest with a 1:00 p.m. meet at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday.
