THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The No. 24 Women's Swimming and Diving team swept the 200 IM, 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, and the 400 medley relay on their to a commanding win at Cal Lutheran Saturday afternoon.
Team Scores: Pomona-Pitzer 164, Cal Lutheran 69
Season Impact: The Sagehens keep their momentum going, staying perfect in SCIAC dual meets.
Individual Races
Katherine Lauerman opened the individual portion of the meet with a commanding win the 1650 yard freestyle. She won with a time of 18:28.28. Kay Sterner took second place at 18:54.73.
Maddie Kauahi, fresh off CollegeSwimming.com naming her SCIAC Swimmer of the Week for the second time this year, won the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle. In the 200, she won with a time of 1:57.43, ahead of Cal Lutheran's Mardell Ramirez who finished at 2:00.30. She won the 100 free with a time of 53.62. Sarah Jin took third in the 100 at 56.69.
The Sagehens scored their first individual sweep of the day in the 200 yard IM with Eva Gontrum winning (2:16.37), Erin Bigus taking second (2:19.27), and Kyra Sanborn placing third (2:20.32).
Pomona-Pitzer finished 1-2-3 again in the 200 yard butterfly. Cayla Nishizaki won the event finishing with a time of 2:18.50, Maddie Larkin took second (2:20.68), and Sanborn finished third (2:26.03).
The Sagehens made it three sweeps taking the top three spots in the 200 yard backstroke. Angela Ling took first (2:12.53), Mallorie Hsu finished second (2:16.93) and Maddie Larkin placed third (2:17.69).
Pomona-Pitzer kept rolling in the 200 yard breaststroke with Clare Flynn winning the race (2:34.75), Larkin taking second (2:37.01), and Molly Weinstock finishing third (2:37.52).
Sabrina Kwan (25:00) and Nishizaki (25:06) finished second and third respectively in the 50 yard frestyle. Victoria Vanderpoel took second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.39.
Relays
The Sagehens opened the meet in commanding fashion by sweeping the 400 medley relay. Hsu, Flynn, Kwan, and Mariah Bowman took the top spot winning with a time of 4:09.13.
The team of Ling, Weinstok, Jin, and Vanderpoel took second (4:13.85), and Alex Seidel, Bigus, Victoria Agostini, and Lavinya Yap took third (4:18.85).
The Sagehens won again in the 400 yard freestyle relay with the combination of Nishizaki, Katherine Lauerman, Gontrum and Kauahi winning with at 3:38.79. Kwan, Hsu, Agostini, and Bigus took third at 3:55.29.
Diving
Ellen Wang had another standout day winning both the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive. In the one meter she won with a score of 228.15. The Regals' Tianna Pasko took second with 158.85 points.
Wang won the three-meter with a final score of 227.85 points with Cal Lutheran's Brianna DeValk finishing second with 142.20 points. Last week against Caltech and Occidental Wang set a Haldeman Pool record and made a NCAA cut in the three-meter with her winning score of 422.05.
Next Meet: The Sagehens will celebrate Senior Day in a 10:30 a.m. home meet against La Verne next Saturday.
