Women's Swimming and Diving: No. 18 Sagehens Beat Bulldogs at Home

Claremont, Calif. – The No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team made it back-to-back SCIAC meet wins, beating the Redlands Bulldogs 154-88 Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool. 

Victoria Vanderpoel won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:03.27 and Mariah Bowman placed third in the event at 11:36.76.

In the 200 yard freestyle, Katherine Lauerman came in second (1:59.57) and Mallorie Hsu finished third (2:02.86).

Maddie Kauahi swept the freestyle sprints for the second week in a row, winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.10 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.95. Cayla Nishizaki took third in the 50 freestyle (25.27) and third in the 100 freestyle (55.15).

The Sagehens took the top three spots in the 400 IM with Maddie Larkin winning (4:53.01), Vanderpoel placing second (4:53.84), and Lavinya Yap finishing third (4:54.03).

Molly Weinstock finished with a time of 2:20.24 in the 200 yard butterfly, good enough for second place. Yap took the third spot at 2:23.75.

Pomona-Pitzer scored another sweep in the 200 yard backstroke. Sarah Jin won the race (2:10.02), Angela Ling came in second (2:12.36), and Eva Gontrum took third (2:12.80).

Vanderpoel followed up her win in the 1000 freestyle with a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:24.55.

Erin Bigus finished in second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:32.42 and Clare Flynn followed in third place (2:32.57).

Ellen Wang won the three-meter dive with a score of 229.60 and came in second in the one-meter dive, scoring 172.20.

The Sagehens won both relay races, with Jin, Ling, Bigus, and Nishizaki winning the 200 medley with a time of 1:49.97. The team of Victoria Agostini, Flynn, Sabrina Kwan, and Mallorie Hsu finished second (1:53.53).

Pomona-Pitzer took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay. Hsu, Jin, Kwan, and Kauahi won the race (1:40.13) and Lauerman, Manon Audebert, Mariah Bowman, and Yap finished second (1:46.35).

Next Meet: The Sagehens take a two week break before returning to action on December 2, at the La Verne Invitational.
