Women's Cross Country: Five First Years Finish Within Top-15

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country Team opened their season to a bright start, taking first place at their 4K Tri Meet against Occidental College and University of La Verne at Strehle Track. The home side scored 25 meet points while Occidental took second with 40 and La Verne finished third with 67.

"We ran well. Most all of this year's runners who ran this course last year improved on their previous times, which shows they did some good summer work," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "We were trying to promote pack running and having each runner support her teammates mid-race, and we did that fairly well. We are deeper than we've been in recent years, which is promising. We want our top five runners to cross the line very close together all season, and today was a great start."

The Sagehens saw three runners take the top-3 and five in the top-10, as Helen Guo took first overall at 14:54 while first year Lila Cardillo followed in second at 14:59.

First year Genevieve DiBari also had an eye-opening debut, finishing in third place at 15:12. Rounding out the top-10 were more first years as Madison Ellis took ninth at 15:32 and Rosie Linkus took 10th at 15:37. Coming in 14th, Madeleine Mount-Cors clocked in at 15:58 and Ariel Kivela took 15th at 16:06.

Up Next: The Sagehens will race again on Saturday, September 15 at 7:30 a.m. at the UC Riverside Invitational.
