LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 18-6 in round one of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Friday morning at the Las Flores Pool.
Senior Ahsha Earwood got the win for the Sagehens as she earned her ninth win of the season with seven saves.
The Bulldogs were led by Sami Walker who also tallied a hat trick with a team-high three goals in the loss.
The Sagehens came out firing to open up the game as they started the first quarter on a 5-0 run as Nohea Kahaulelio and Williamson racked up two goals each and junior Morgan McCracken found the back of the net as the Sagehens outscored the Bulldogs 5-1 to end the first.
Redlands played even with Pomona-Pitzer in the second quarter but couldn't gain any ground on the scoreboard as each team scored three goals to give the Sagehens an 8-4 lead at the half.
The Sagehens blew the game open in the third quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 6-0. Sophomore Natalie Hill got the scoring going in the second half off of a pass from Nohea Kahaulelio for a power play goal followed by goals from Williamson and Nohea Kahaulelio to take an 11-4 lead with 4:03 left in the third.
Pomona-Pitzer closed the quarter out with back to back goals from sophomore Kyla Pickell and senior Hope Grant capped off the quarter with a goal with just four seconds left on the clock to give the Sagehens a 14-4 lead heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens began the fourth quarter with four-straight goals from freshman Sasha Newton, sophomore Janelle Lewis, freshman Crystal Huang and freshman Maddie Kauahi to make it 10 unanswered goals in the second half as Pomona-Pitzer took a commanding 18-4 lead over the Bulldogs and coasted to a first round win in the SCIAC Tournament.
