WOODLAND HILLS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 3-0 on Saturday night at Gilbert Arena.
Set Scores: (25-17, 25-17, 25-12)
Season Impact: The loss gives Pomona-Pitzer a 6-17 record overall and 3-8 in SCIAC while Cal Lutheran sits 10-10 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
Early in the first set, the two teams were looking to gain a significant advantage as they both remained fairly close. Trailing 6-3, Addo-Ashong recorded a block assist and scored two kills to tie the game. However, the Regals found their rhythm on offense and broke out for a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 lead. The Regals eventually took a 23-13 lead, but the Sagehens tried to make a late push, taking advantage of a few errors by the Regals and a service ace from Laney Pope to go on a 4-0 run. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Regals took the first set 25-17.
The Regals leapt to an 8-2 lead in the second set while the Sagehens struggled to establish their offense. Cal Lutheran continued to extend its advantage, running to a 24-12 lead. The Sagehens fought back thanks to kills by Addo-Ashong and Sophie Janssen to go on a 5-0 rally, but a kill by Amanda Roberts of Cal Lutheran finished the set 25-12 for the Regals.
Cal Lutheran maintained its momentum from the last set, scoring on kills by Paris Dosch and Amanda Roberts to take a 16-6 lead. Kelly tried to rally the Sagehens back, scoring three kills during a 4-0 run to cut the deficit 19-11. However, the Regals jumped to a 6-1 rally to seal the third set 25-12.
