CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Pavilion.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 6-14 overall and 3-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Isabel Kelly who led the team with 11 kills while Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and Sophie Janssen each chipped in with nine. Jessica Finn led the squad with 20 assists and Natalie Martin had a team-high 19 digs.
Pomona-Pitzer came out and gave CMS all they could handle early on as they took an early 5-4 lead and then extended that lead to 12-6 after a kill by Janssen. CMS battled back and closed the gap to 19-17 but the Sagehens refused to be beaten in set one and rallied to take set one 25-21.
After dropping set one at home, CMS came out in set two and immediately jumped ahead 9-6 top start. The Athenas broke the set open as they then went on to score nine of the next 10 points and went on to win set two 25-11.
The Athenas jumped out on an 11-4 run to start a crucial third set which left the Sagehens in a tough position to fight back from. CMS kept they rhythm throughout the set and went on to take a 2-1 lead after a 25-12 third-set victory.
Pomona-Pitzer went up early on in the fourth with a 6-2 lead but the Athenas quickly erased the Pomona-Pitzer lead and took a 9-8 lead. CMS extended that lead to 17-12 but the Sagehens fought back to narrow the gap to just 18-16 after a kill by Addo-Ashong.
The Sagehens comeback attempt came up short in the fourth set as CMS took four of the last five points to take set four 25-19 and take a win in the Sixth Street Rivalry.
