CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 3-0 on Friday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Set Scores: (25-23, 25-17, 25-15)
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 6-13 overall and 3-4 in conference play while Occidental improves to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by Isabel Kelly who tallied a team-high nine kills while Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and Sophie Janssen each chipped in with seven. Jessica Fin led the Sagehens with 20 assists and Natalie Martin added a team-high 10 digs.
The first set went as a close battle as neither team could pull away by more than four points throughout the entire set. The Sagehens held the lead late at 23-20 after a kill by Kayla Krilove but the Tigers rallied and scored the final five points of the match to come from behind in set one with the 25-23 win.
Occidental jumped on top in set two early as they came out and mounted a 12-7 lead. The Tigers continued to slowly build their lead throughout the second set and held a 22-15 lead and went on to score three of the final five points to take set two 25-17.
The Sagehens started the third set behind again as Occidental came out with nine-straight points to open up the third set. The Sagehens responded with five-straight of their own to cut the lead down to just 9-5 but the Tigers had a spree of rallies in the third set to take a 20-13 lead and went on to finish off the Sagehens 25-15.
