CLAREMONT, CA. – Senior Day was a monumental success for the No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team, as the Sagehens defeated Division II UC San Diego at home on Saturday afternoon 5-4. After edging out the Tritons in the doubles round 2-1, the Sagehens managed to take three singles round for the close victory.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 14-3 overall after today's victory.
Maria Lyven and Arianna Chen won their no. 1 doubles match against Becky Chou and Ashley Chao 8-5 while Caroline Casper and Jay Kim defeated Shweta Kumar and Anu Bhadada in no. 3 doubles 8-4. Grace Hruska and Lucy Jiang fell to Alexandra Weil and Madison Hale in no. 2 doubles 8-3.
Arianna Chen took a close 6-4 and 7-6 victory over Chou in no. 3 singles while Jacinta Chen battled to a 7-5 and 6-2 victory over Bhadada in no. 5. Rebecca Salaway defeated Hale in a three-set thriller in no. 6 singles, dropping the first set 4-6, but coming back with a pair of 6-1 sets. Caroline Casper dropped a three set battle, dropping the first set 4-6 and winning the second 6-4. In the final set, she battled to extra games, but fell 5-7. In no. 2 single, Maria Lyven took a pair of close 5-7 losses to Weil and Lucy Jiang fell to Kumar (6-1, 0-6, 0-6) in no. 4.
